Compass course

Round and round, turn east then west,

Where are you facing? Which way is best?

It’s so easy to get out the Sat Nav, even if you’re just going for a stroll over the hills. But what happens if there’s no signal or your battery dies? You’ll need a good old map and compass – but how do you use them?

This activity begins a central point where you’ll be shown how to use a compass and take bearings. In no time, you’ll be off in a straight line to reach a set goal. It’s not as tricky as it sounds, but great fun and really useful next time your Sat Nav dies. It’ll help your maths and geography too!

Suitable for all ages
