The Outdoor Centre
The Outdoor Centre is a separate centre within the grounds of Kilve Court. It is set in the Somerset countryside surrounded by the stunning Quantock Hills, with 40 acres of wooded grounds and gardens, and less than a mile away is Kilve’s Jurassic beach!
The Outdoor Centre includes the Quantock Hall – a large indoor space that can be used as a dining room or meeting room. There is also a spacious outdoor area with a patio, a sports pitch and a purpose built campfire area! Neighbouring the Outdoor Centre are heated cabins used for accommodation.
Our heated cabins can take up to 76 people in total, including staff. They all have keypad access, smoke alarms and emergency alarms. One of the cabins which has 3 beds is wheelchair friendly and has a hoist.
All cabins have their own heaters, making sure that guests are comfortable throughout their stay. There is plenty of storage for clothes and bags, and boot lockers outside every door. Students are asked to provide their own sleeping bags and pillowcases, staff bedding will be provided unless you want to bring your own.
It is important for our guests to know that there won’t be a member of staff staying at the Outdoor Centre overnight, although there is a duty instructor on the Kilve site 24/7 with an emergency mobile phone. The Duty Instructor is also a qualified first-aider. We take security very seriously at the ODC. All of the cabins have electronic keypads, and the codes are changed regularly.
Toilets & Showers
The toilet and shower blocks are a very short walk from the cabins. The toilet blocks have automatic sensor lighting so that if anyone needs to go during the night they don’t need torches. The site is well lit at night, there is a 360 degree lighting tower that lights the whole site, as well as lights on each cabin. Disabled facilities with extra space are within the staff loo and shower building.
The hall is a light and airy modern hall which can hold up to 80 people comfortably. It is mainly used as the dining room but also doubles as a classroom.
This space is also perfect for conferences, meetings, discos and parties. It has free Wi-Fi, a large projector and screen, speakers and an amplifier.
Outside, we have a large patio with picnic tables and a sports pitch with a five-a-side football area. There is also a games chest where you can find balls, tennis racquets, skipping ropes and bats. We have got a purpose-built campfire area with seating, which serves as ¬the perfect place to end a day.
Being set within the grounds of Kilve Court, means that we have access to a large selection of activities which groups can choose to undertake.
After a day full of memorable experiences, being away from home and trying new activities, we find that the children love to try new foods and try what their friends are having. Our experienced cooks cater for all sorts of dietary needs and tastes. There are normally 5 choices on the menu, including hot food and salads to keep everyone happy and healthy. Just let us know in advance if you need a special food or have a particular allergy.
All guests will need to bring their own packed lunch on the day of arrival unless otherwise agreed.
